VOYAGE: Solo Exhibition

Please join me for the opening of my newest solo exhibition “Voyage”, on November 8th 5-8pm, at Abbozzo Gallery in Toronto. The digital catalogue can be previewed here.

“Voyage" invites you on a journey through the ever-changing landscapes of the ocean. This collection of seascapes is more than just a visual exploration—it’s an invitation to escape, find solace, and reconnect with the natural world. The ocean, with its vastness and depth, serves as both a destination and a reflection of the emotions and thoughts that flow within us.

Each piece in this exhibition captures a fleeting moment in time, an interplay of light, water, and sky. These paintings are crafted to evoke the sensations of being near the ocean and the lasting impressions it leaves on our memories. They are a tribute to the ocean’s power and tranquility, a reminder of its ability to soothe the mind and inspire the spirit.

The title, “Voyage”, is intentionally ambiguous, inviting each viewer to embark on their own personal journey. Whether it stirs reflections on past experiences, moments of introspection, or simply offers an escape from the everyday, this exhibition encourages you to let your mind wander and find solace in the boundless beauty of the ocean.”

Coastal Impressions - Solo Exhibition

My newest solo exhibition is on view at Abbozzo Gallery in Toronto for the month of November, 2022. This new body of work celebrates the beauty and variation in the familiar yet ever wondrous subject of water. Specifically, the Ocean, in its boundless mass and dormant strength. Intentionally differing in their temperament and spirit, each painting captures specific encounters with the coastline that left lasting impressions on me: wading along the subaqueous dunes, watching the sun fall slowly beneath the ocean’s horizon, or taking in ferocious and turbulent waves from a safe distance. Moments like these evoke feelings of awe, comfort and relief. These paintings intend to recreate those impressions on canvas.

News Update: My time in residence at the Pouch Cove Foundation

For the last two months I have been an artist in residence at the Pouch Cove Foundation, in Pouch Cove Newfoundland. I was staying there along with fellow artist Jared Betts, who I attended NSCAD University with over 10 years ago. During my stay I created 5 large scale artworks, four were pre-sold commissioned pieces arranged through my art dealer James Baird, founder of the Pouch Cove Foundation, and one was a special collaborative piece that Jared and I created together.

The experience was incredibly inspiring and really pushed my abilities as an artist. I was immersed in the history of the Pouch Cove residency where so many amazing artists have stayed over the years. The town of Pouch Cove is a coastal village on the rugged coast of Newfoundland and the ocean views were so inspiring as a seascape painter. The building itself is an old school which now holds 8 artist studios and several large gallery spaces filled with art from all over the world which is always on rotation. When I wanted a break I would walk around the galleries admiring other artists work, or take hikes along the East Coast Trail, just across the street from the old school.

It was also a pleasure having Jared across the hall and watching his work come to life. Our collaborative piece is something we’ve been discussing for years so this was the perfect opportunity to do it. Our work is so different and yet so complimentary when combined onto one canvas, as well as hung alongside each other in the gallery at the end of our stay.

A huge thank you to James Baird and the Pouch Cove Foundation for this incredible opportunity.

I will be heading back to Newfoundland in September, for my next solo show with James Baird Gallery, opening September 11, 2021. Until then I will be working back in Nova Scotia on the collection of new work, which will become available in the coming months!

SEA CHANGE, Solo Exhibition

A collection of new paintings is now available to view online! My new solo show Sea Change is opening at Abbozzo Gallery on December 5th. I've worked hard on this new work all year, and although the paintings won't be able to be viewed together in person I am still proud to show all the work to you online.

To view the full Exhibition Catalogue, please click here

"The ocean—like nature as a whole—embodies a few fundamental contradictions that reinforce its enduring power and mystery. It is constant, familiar, and fruitful—in so many ways—to the human species. Yet it is also intimidating and unfathomable—a uniquely fluctuating environment. Though I emphasize its positive, enlivening qualities, these contradictions live in this series of work, as I develop my appreciation of the ocean’s different sides. The ocean teaches us humility, respect, and gratitude. And this too, I hope is clear in the work."

Due to local COVID-19 restrictions, this exhibition will be online only. Following the current lockdown timeline, all unsold works will be available for public viewing in January 2021.
